Domain Appraisals and Upcoming Radio Show Topics
Monte: So, again next week we’re going to have probably Rick Schwartz on, the web father, and we’ll do another top 10 tips related around the domains themselves, on how to keep domains valuable and the evaluation factors that are involved when we do appraisals anyway. Having performed appraisals since 1999, our appraisals used to, when somebody says well what’s the value of a domain appraisal. It is extremely valuable, now more than ever; because we have more than 10,000 sales as a comparable data base to compare those domain names to, we have different market segments that are hotter than others, different keywords that are being used more and more in the search engines that are relative to the domain names that people are selling. So, the appraisal values are pretty interesting these days compared to what they were with hardly any information when we first started this appraisal business in 1999. So, we’re going to get into a lot of those factors. Again, in upcoming shows and events, we’re going to have Matt Cutts from Google and Howard Neu from NeuLaw on board to talk about some other interesting domain-related law content. We had such a successful show last week with Dr. John Berryhill, that we feel that we’ll do some kind of domain-law related content probably every other show or every third show, because there’s lots of interesting things going on in the industry, especially with the new ICANN transfer policy. The UDRP process, the new extensions .mobi and .jobs that have just gone through another step of approval that will be coming out sometime later this year. We just received some news about who’s in the bidding for the new .net registry, so we’ll talk about some of that. As some of you may know, .net will be up for bid in terms of a registry this year; and VeriSign is vying to get that registry business back, or putting their hat back into the game, because they kind of lose it this year and have to re-bid for it. We just learned today that .de, the German extension registry, is going to be vying for that, and so is Affilius, the ones who do .info and .org, will also be bidding for that registry. So it should be pretty interesting in the weeks and months to come to see how that’s going to break out. .net is going to be a pretty powerful extension, believe it or not. Six months ago lots of people felt that .net was stuck in between a well-known .com brand or extension and a .org that revitalized itself through going out on its own and not being all non-profit and non-commercial use. It’s actually being used as an alternative to .com more than .net was. The valuable thing about .net, however, is that .net has more DNS servers on the .net extension than .com does; and a lot of people don’t know that. It’s a very important extension for people to cover their brands and identities on; because most DNS servers have large companies. If you look up MSN and Citrix and a lot of the big companies in our space, their DNS servers run on the .net extension of their brand. In any case, we’re going to wind up the show. Again, those that are the winners, I’ll announce them again one more time. It’s Trisha, E. Strong, X.
