The window is brief – only a few days out of the entire domain life cycle, which could be 10 years or even more.

• No risk: It costs nothing to place a backorder. You pay only if SnapNames can deliver the domain.
• Automatic notification: You will be notified by e-mail automatically any time a backorder is fulfilled, a domain auction begins, or if your maximum bid is exceeded during a backorder auction.
• Simple auctions: If yours is the only backorder, the domain name will be delivered to you. If more than one backorder has been received for a single domain, a short three day auction will determine fair market value.
