Domain Management Tips From The SiberKat

The Moniker Domain Manager is one of the most dynamic, state of the art systems available. It is specifically designed for people who wish to manage all aspects of there domain names, whether they own 10 or 10,000 domain names.
In creating the Moniker System, we researched numerous other domain management systems as well as receiving input from customers on options they would like available in a domain manager.
In order to better assist our customers, we have provided information on some of the many unique aspects and services that are available via the Moniker Domain Management System:
1) AUTO RENEW
Use Auto Renew when your domain name is close to expiration, the system will automatically pull a credit from your account (if a credit is available) and apply it to the domain name.
If you would like to turn on/off the Auto Renew function for your domain names:
- Log into your account.
- On the Menu on the left hand side, (under the Domain Names) click on "View Domains".
- Once the list comes up, on the menu across the top, click Auto Renew.
- Choose the names you wish to have the Auto Renew turned on/off by checking the box next to the name. Then click "Manage Auto Renew".
- Then in the drop down menus, choose "Yes" or "No" for Auto Renew and how many years you wish to have the name renewed for, then click 'Update Auto Renew".
- You will then be able to see the changes you have made.
2) REGISTER NAMESERVERS
If you are someone who wishes to host there own website or an administrator that wishes to create a new DNS for one of their clients domain names, you would need to create a nameserver. When a nameserver is created at Moniker.com, the nameserver record is created at the registry as well. If you need to create a nameserver for a domain name that is registered at Moniker.com then follow the directions below:
- Log into your account. On the menu on the left, under the Domain Names Heading, click on "Register DNS".
- Enter the "Default Setting" in the field provided (such as ns1 or ns2).
- Then choose the domain name that you want to create the server from using the drop down menu.
- Enter the IP Address to be associated with the domain name in the box marked: "Primary IP Address of Nameserver".
- Then click the button marked "Add New DNS Server".
- You should then receive a confirmation that the DNS Server has been created.
3) MONIKER CREDITS
Moniker credits are purchased by customers who wish to register many domain names or who wish to renew domain names. When you purchase Credits, you do not have to deal with the inconvenience of entering your credit card information over and over again.
- 1 Moniker Credit would equal the following at Moniker.com:
- 1 domain registration for 1 year, or
- 1 domain renewal for 1 year, or
- 1 domain transfer/renewal for 1 year.
- Credits can be used for all the above mentioned transactions.
If you would like to purchase credits:
- Log into your account.
- On the upper right hand side of the screen click on the link marked "buy credits".
- From the drop down menu, choose the Number of Credits to Purchase.
- Fill in the credit card information that is requested and press "Continue".
- You will then receive verification that you have purchased the credits.

4) PUSH DOMAIN/TRANSFER OWNERSHIP
If you sell your domain name and need to change ownership information, Moniker.com has created a process that makes the operation one of the easiest available anywhere!
If you wish to transfer ownership of your domain name, the new owner of the name would first need to create an account at Moniker.com. In order to do this, they would need to:
- go to: https://www.moniker.com/cgi-bin/login_account.cgi
- Click on the button marked "Create New Account".
- Once the account is created, the new owner would need to provide you (the seller) with the account number (not the password, just the account #).
- In order (for the seller) to move the domain name to the new owners account:
- Log into your account
- On the menu on the left hand side under the "Domain Names" heading, click on Push Domain;
- Enter the domain name you wish to move into the box marked "Domain Name".
- Enter the Account Number in the box marked "Push To" Account Number:
- If you wish for the contact information on the domain name to change to the information that is in the new account, then make sure the button "PUSH the contact information to the new account".
- If you do not want the new account information placed on the domain name, then press, "DO NOT PUSH the contact information to the new account".
- Then press "PUSH DOMAIN"
- You will then receive verification that the name has now been relocated into the new account that you were moving it to.
5) LOCK STATUS
The Lock Status refers to the new security measure that we have initiated. All domain names are now "locked" at Moniker.com. This means that they cannot be transferred to other registrars, nor can pertinent information be modified on the domain name such as DNS information. This has been developed to protect the customer from possible hijacking/theft of your domain names.
- In order to turn the lock on/off:
- Log into your account
- On the Menu on the left hand side, (under the Domain Names) click on "Manage Locks".
- On the left hand side by the domain name, use the drop down menu to choose "Locked" or "Unlock. Once you have chosen all the domains you wish to modify, click on Update Locks"
- You will then receive verification that the lock/unlock succeeded.
6) UPDATE DNS INFORMATION:
Are you going to have a website for your domain name? If so, you will need to change the DNS (Domain Name Server) information on your name.
The DNS basically "points" your domain name to your website. So you are aware, the DNS information would usually be provided to you by your hosting company.
In order to change the DNS:
- Log into your account.
- From the main account area, on the menu on the left, under the Domain
- Names Heading, click on “View Domains".
- Click the box next to the domain name (s) that you want to modify (If you want to modify all the names, click on the button that says "Select All").
- At the top right of the page, click the "Modify Domains" button.
- On the next page, choose what you wish to modify.
- For this case, click DNS Servers, then press CONTINUE.
- Type in the new DNS information in the fields provided. **Remember, all you need to enter is the DNS; the IP information (ex. 262.55.474) will automatically propagate.
- Then press UPDATE.
- You will then receive a confirmation that the DNS has been modified on the names.

7) MODIFY ACCOUNT INFORMATION
If you need to change or update the address, phone number and/or e-mail address for your account at Moniker.com then follow the steps provided below
- Login to your account.
- On the menu on the left hand side under the heading "Account", click on "Customer Settings".
- One you are on that screen, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the button marked "Modify Account Info".
- Once you have completed the modifications, then click on the button that says "Modify Account", you will then be brought back to the Customer Settings screen and the changes should then be reflected.
With these instructions, you should be able to use the Moniker Domain Manager for all your domain needs.
